Encontro de Lideranças 2019

Join hundreds of young leaders from across the U.S. and around the world for our 2019 Girl Up Leadership Summit in Washington, DC.



  1. When can I register?

    Early bird registration is NOW OPEN ($129): February 26 – March 31
    Regular registration ($149): April – June 15
    Registration closes on June 15, 2019 or once capacity is reached, whichever comes first. Past years have sold out quickly, with a long wait list. Don’t delay in registering for your spot!
  2. Who can attend the Girl Up Leadership Summit?
    The Leadership Summit is open to students aged 13-22, with a programming especially designed for students in high school. We encourage students of all genders and backgrounds to attend.
  3. O que a taxa de inscrição inclui?
    The registration fee covers the cost of all programming, meals (excluding dinner) and transportation for day of action service. A taxa de inscrição NÃO cobre o seu quarto de hotel. Você deve reservar e pagar suas acomodações separadamente.

    No, there are no discounts available at this time.
  5. Por que não consigo inscrever várias pessoas de uma vez?
    Apenas uma pessoa pode se inscrever por vez. This allows Girl Up to capture all the pertinent information for each participant including birthday, t-shirt size, and dietary needs.
  6. Meus pais ou acompanhantes podem se inscrever no Encontro de Lideranças?
    Due to high demand and youth-centered programming, no parents or adult chaperones may register for or attend the Leadership Summit. Parents with questions or concerns should contact a Girl Up staff member.
  7. I can’t afford the registration fee or travel costs. What do I do?
    Girl Up has a list of ideas to fundraise your way to the Summit!
  8. E se meus planos mudarem e eu não puder mais comparecer ao Encontro, minha taxa de inscrição pode ser reembolsada?
    Yes. You can request a refund directly from the Summit registration platform, Eventbrite. All requests for refunds must be submitted by June 1. Se você tiver algum problema com o recebimento do valor, entre em contato com events@girlup.org.
  9. Can Girl Up sponsor my visa?

O JW Marriott Washington D.C. é o hotel oficial do Encontro de Lideranças Girl Up 2019. The hotel is in the center of downtown Washington, DC, within walking distance of the National Mall and White House. Attendees booking other accommodations can confirm the details of their stay with the hotel of their choice.

  2. How long do I have to book my hotel room at the discounted rate?
    The discounted room block will be available until Friday, June 21 or until capacity is reached. Stay tuned for a link to book your room with Girl Up’s discounted rate.
  3. Os participantes podem dividir os quartos para dividir os custos?

  1. Quando a programação vai começar e terminar?
    Breakfast will be served before daily programming begins each morning around 8am. Programming will finish at approximately 5 PM each day. Esperamos que as participantes cumpram toda a programação. There will be optional evening events on Monday and Tuesday night for those who wish to better connect with fellow Summit participants. You can see last year’s agenda as an example.
  2. When will the program agenda be available?
    Registered participants will receive emails leading up to the Summit, and a final version of the program will be sent to all participants in early July. Girl Up Community members can find a “sneak peek” of the program in the Summit Hub, featuring speaker announcements and workshop descriptions. You can also see the 2018 Leadership Summit program for an idea of what to expect.
  3. O que as participantes devem levar?
    Dress is casual on Monday and Tuesday. Vista da forma como se sentir mais confortável e mais poderosa. Please remember that even though July in Washington D.C. is hot, air conditioning indoors can be chilly. Recomendamos levar pelo menos um suéter/moletom. On Wednesday, attendees will participate in a “day of action.” Attire will include the official Girl Up Leadership Summit t-shirt and attendees should plan to wear comfortable shoes. More information will be shared in a Participant Packet in the weeks leading up to the event.

  5. What are the options to participate in for Day of Action?

    Storytelling and Communications: Participants will learn how to conceptualize and create compelling stories. The first part of the morning will be spent learning  how to develop a story, make a pitch, and hone communication skills. The second part of the day will consist of going to a news outlet to pitch a story.

    STEM for Social Good: Participants will take a deeper dive into STEM and go through a STEM for Social Good training. They will start off the morning in small groups and be paired with a STEM mentor(s) to build out their solution action plans. Groups will create and practice their pitches, and in the afternoon go off-site to a local tech company to pitch their STEM solutions.

    Local Community Impact: Participants will explore how community issues disproportionately affect girls and women (homelessness, food desert, domestic violence, climate change, etc.) and will go through a local community impact training to understand how organization address the needs of communities. In small groups, girls will create an initial concept for an action plans to address a local community issue and then go off-site to visit a local community organization, meet with employees and tour the site to understand the operations of the organization, and spend time volunteering to serve the community.

    Lobby Day: Participants will learn how to have an effective meeting with their members of Congress and understand the importance of advocating for adolescent girls living in places of the world where they don’t have access to education, healthcare, safety, etc. They will be paired into groups by states and taken to Capitol Hill to meet with their members of Congress to ask them to cosponsor a piece of legislation that focuses on empowering adolescent girls and to tell them more about Girl Up and what their Club is doing back in the district.


  1. How can I get to the Summit?
    Summit programming will take place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, D.C. The Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center is a short walking distance from the JW Marriott Hotel. It is also accessible via the Orange, Blue and Silver lines on the D.C. metro, for those who opt to stay elsewhere (Visit www.wmata.com to plan your trip.)
  2. Qual é o aeroporto mais próximo do Encontro?
    The Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is the closest airport to the Leadership Summit venue and hotel, around 4 miles away. Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Baltimore–Washington International Airport (BWI) are both around 30 miles from the venue and sponsored hotel.
  3. Como as participantes vão do aeroporto para o hotel?
    Transportation from the airport to the hotel will not be provided by Girl Up, but there are several convenient shuttle services, taxis and public transportation options at each airport. You can visit WMATA’s website to learn more about the Washington D.C. metro system and plan your trip.
  4. How will participants get to Wednesday’s day of action location?
    Girl Up will provide free, round-trip shuttles from the Ronald Reagan Building to the designated location.


  1. Os acompanhantes precisam se inscrever e pagar?
    Não. A programação foi criada especificamente para estudantes. Parents/chaperones that accompany a participant to Washington, DC will not be able to participate in Leadership Summit programming.
  2. O Girl Up vai fornecer acompanhantes durante a noite?
    Official programming concludes each day around 5pm. Girl Up will not provide chaperones for Leadership Summit attendees after scheduled programming has ended.
  3. As participantes menores de idade precisam de um acompanhante?
    Girl Up does not require minors to attend Leadership Summit with a chaperone. Any chaperones traveling with Summit attendees will not be able to participate in Summit programming, but are free to drop off/pick up participants at the registration area and check-in with the participant by phone as needed.

Financial Assistance

Financial Aid applications are now CLOSED. All applicants will be notified of the status of their application by the end of March. 

  1. Can I apply for financial assistance?
    Applications for financial assistance to support travel costs to register for and attend the Summit are now closed.
  2. Qual é o prazo para pedir ajuda financeira?
    The deadline to apply for need-based financial assistance was February 15, 2019. Girl Up cannot consider applications after this date.
  3. Quando saberei se consegui receber ajuda financeira?
    Applicants will be notified on a rolling basis, at the latest by the end of March. A ajuda financeira é baseada na necessidade, o que significa que é concedida dependendo das condições das participantes de pagar as despesas relacionadas ao Encontro.
