When and where will the 2019 camps be held?
Drumroll, please… Girl Up is excited to announce that there will be FIVE WiSci camps in 2019! Applications open in March 2019 and close in April-June 2019. Applicants will be notified of their application status by May 30, 2019. Please see below for more details.
Applications for campers from the U.S. and all participating countries to WiSci Ethiopia, WiSci Estonia, and WiSci Namibia are now closed and all applicants were notified of their application status. If an applicant to these three camps has not yet received notification it is indicative that she was not selected.
Applicants to WiSci Camps in Ethiopia, Namibia, and Estonia were notified of their application status by May 30, 2019.
Applicants to WiSci Oregon and WiSci Kosovo will be notified of their application status by June 15, or when all available camper spots are claimed.
The WiSci Girls STEAM Camp will be held in Windhoek, Namibia from June 18-29, 2019 for girls from all regions of Namibia. The camp will be hosted at the Namibia University for Science and Technology (NUST), co-implemented by Girl Up and NUST.
The WiSci Girls STEAM Camp will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on July 3-16, 2019 for girls from the United States and Ethiopia. The camp will be hosted the International Community School of Ethiopia. Camp participants will have secure, supervised accommodations, participate in daily STEAM activities in classrooms and attend chaperoned off-site excursions.
The WiSci Girls STEAM Camp will be held in Pristina, Kosovo from August 18-29, 2019 for 100 girls from the United States, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro and Serbia. The camp will be hosted at AAB College. Lodging provided by the Student Center at the University of Pristina.
The WiSci Girls STEAM Camp will be held in Tallinn, Estonia from July 14-27, 2019 for 100 girls from the countries of United States, Estonia, Poland, Latvia and Georgia. The camp will be hosted at the Tallinn University of Applied Sciences.
The WiSci Girls STEAM Camp will be held for rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grade girls in Bend, Oregon, USA from July 28 – August 3, 2019 for girls from the Pacific North West region of the United States. The camp will be hosted at Oregon State University, Cascades campus.
Quem é pode se candidatar para participar do evento?
Self-identifying girls, ages 15 to 18 at the time of the camp, with at least one year of high school remaining during the 2019-2020 school year, who are citizens or residents of participating countries.
Ethiopia 2019: citizens or residents of Ethiopia and citizens of the United States of America
Kosovo 2019: citizens or residents of Kosovo and citizens of Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, and the United States of America.
Estonia 2019: citizens or residents of Estonia and citizens of Poland, Latvia, Georgia, or citizens of the United States of America.
Oregon 2019: Self-identifying girls, who are rising 7th, 8th, and 9th graders for the 2019-2020 school year, who are residents of the Pacific North West region of the United States of America.
Namibia 2019: citizens or residents of Namibia.

June 15, 2019 at 11:59 PM ET is the deadline or until all available camper spots are claimed for US applicants from Washington and Oregon to the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade WiSci Oregon camp. It is also the deadline for girls from Albania and Montenegro to WiSci Kosovo.

Qual é o custo para participar do evento? Hospedagem, alimentação e atividades estão incluídas?
All selected participants will receive a scholarship to attend the camp free of charge, a value of over $5,000 USD. All costs associated with lodging, food, and activities during the camp are covered through the support of WiSci partners, in addition to transportation to/from the capital city of your home country (origin of departure). Between 70 – 100 campers at each camp.
Com quem as participantes vão interagir durante o evento?
As participantes do evento e as jovens conselheiras ficarão nos dormitórios da universidade, no local. Cada conselheira será responsável por um grupo de 10 participantes. Camp staff will be composed of staff by Girl Up at all camps and additionally by World Learning staff at WiSci Ethiopia. All staff staying overnight on the camp premises are required to undergo a background check.
Facilitadores em sala de aula e funcionários do setor privado de organizações como Google e Intel também estarão presentes durante o dia para realizar a programação STEAM. Outros mentores e palestrantes convidados, incluindo funcionários do governo, visitarão o evento para interagir com as participantes do evento.
